Tokyo Governor is positive to joint development of passenger plane

Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara again took his positive stance for joint development of middle or small passenger airplane by major Asian countries at the 5th Asian Network of Major Cities 21 (ANMC 21) generalassembly in Taipei on April 13 and 14. He said, "It will be a symbol of industrial potentiality in Asia and will help establish identity of Asia in the world.

*Jetstar will commence daily Kansai flight service from next March

Jetstar, the fully owned low cost carrier (LCC) of Qantas Airways, announcedon April 11 this year in Osaka that it would begin serving daily flight service on Sydney-Kansai International Airport (KIX)-Brisbane-Sydney route from March next year. Jetstar Group General Manager Commercial Bruce Buchanan said, "Jetstar will provide economy class and Star class (business class) on its long-haul international flights to Japan. The Star class is very similar to the business class provided by Qantas on its domestic flights. Also, we plan to hire Japanese-speaking flight attendants for the new services."

Airbus COO emphasized benefits of A380 to JAL and ANA again

Charles Champion, Airbus Chief Operating Officer and Head of the A380 Program, visited Japan on April 5 to say that Airbus is still ambitious to sell A380 in Japan and to expand industrial relations with Japanese manufacturers. The first aim for his visiting this time was to explain the current condition of the A380 program to JAL and ANA, though it was not direct sales activity, Champion added.

Next JAL CEO says B787 and B737-800 will play key roles on its international network

Next JAL President and CEO Haruka Nishimatsu, who will officially take office in June this year, said at a joint new conference on March 24 that he believe the international passenger flight business will drastically change in 2009, for which JAL Ways (JAZ), a low-cost carrier of the JAL Group, will play a key role." After completion of the re-expansion of HanedaAirport in 2009, short-haul international flights based on Haneda will possibly be operated like domestic flights, he added.
