Centrair achievedthe initial passenger goal for the first year

Central Japan International Airport Co. Senior Executive Vice President Kunikatsu Yamashita reported at a news conference on February 20 that the new airport achieved the initial passenger goal for the first year after it opened on February 17 2005, as the number of passengersreached a total of about 12.3 million, which were broken down into international flight passengers of about 5.3 million and domestic flight passengers of about 7 million. Also, Yamashita revealed that passenger effects from the Aichi Expo (March 25 to September 25 2005) were approximately 1,000 on international flights a day and 3,000 on domestic flights a day.

*JAL Managing Directorscall for its CEO's resignation

It was reported on February 15 that four Managing Directors of JAL Group have called for resignation of JAL President and CEO Toshiyuki Shinmachi, Executive Vice President Katsuo Haneda and Senior Managing Director Hidekazu Nishizuka to take their responsibilities for aggravation of the business. However, Shinmachi quickly refused the demand and has requested them to devote themselves to their own duties.

JAL further scales downits international passenger flights for turnaround

JAL Group released its route, frequency and fleet plan for FY2006 on February 6 to shrink its international passenger flights and instead to increase international cargo flights from Narita Airport. According to the plan, JAL will suspend its Narita-Las Vegas flights, Kansai International-Los Angeles flights, Komatsu-Seoul flights and Hiroshima-Seoul flights. At the same time, JAL Ways, the low-cost operator of JAL Group, will play more roles on international routes, increasing its share to 21% as ofthe end of FY2006 compared to FY2005. Also, JAL expects that the business scale of international cargo flights will expand by 10% approximately, using Narita slots available after the suspension of passenger flights.

ANA targets large increases of revenue and profit under the new midterm plan

ANA released the new midterm corporate plan for the next four years (FY2006 to FY2009) on January 31 this year, placing the four fiscal years as the important term for ANA to become "number one airline in Asia." Although ANA usually makes a three-fiscal years corporate plan, it released the four-fiscal years plan this time because a business plan for completion ofthe Haneda-re-expansion program in FY2009 should be included.
