*Rolls-Royce strongly hopes JAL selects Trent 1000 for its B787s

Charles Cuddington, Managing Director-Airlines of Rolls-Royce, said at an exclusive interview with the Wing Aviation Press that the leading aircraft engine maker strongly expects JAL to select Trent 1000 engines for its 30 Boeing 787s. ANA hasalready decided to select the latest engine for its 50 B787s. Rolls-Royce will soon begin full-scale discussion with JAL on the engineselection, appealing the engine's advantages against the rivals. One of the advantages is the three-axes structure that is a Rolls-Royce's original technology, Cuddington highlighted.

*ANA made a profit, while JAL made a loss for the first quarter

The financial results of JAL Group and ANA Group for the first quarter of FY2005 (April to June 2005), which were released on July 29, finds that JAL suffered from operating loss, but ANA succeeded in posting operating profit, although both airlines increased revenue for the period. JAL, operating much more international flights than ANA, wasmore damaged by the rise of fuel price than ANA as JAL and ANA eachneeded 21.9 billion yen more and 4.7 billion yen more fuel costs for the period than a year ago.

*Centrair expects to welcome 10 million visitors inAugust

Central Japan International Airport Co. said that the number of visitors to the airport nicknamed Centrair, including non-aviation visitors will possibly reach a total of 10 million around August 3 this year since it opened on February 17 this year. The company's original expectation is 15 million visitors through 2005, including 3 million non-aviation visitors to commercial areas of the airport, however the number is supposed to reach two third of the annual target even before six months since it opened.
