* Kansai has still hit by the anti-Japan campaigns in China

Kansai International Airport Co. (KIAC) Executive Vice President Tadakuni Hirano revealed at a news conference on June 17 that the airport has still been given negative influences on tourist passenger demands for China from the anti-Japan campaigns in China, which sporadically happened in major cities in April this year, although business passenger demands for China have already recovered to the normal level. As Kansai still suffers lower booking status on Chinese routes even after June, compared with the same period last year, Hirano honestly said that the airport expects to restore tourist passenger demands for China to the normal level after this autumn.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced on June 14 that the Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies (SJAC) and French Aerospace Industries Association (GIFAS) signed an agreement on joint study of supersonic transport (SST) at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) Privatization Task Force recently released an advocacy titled "Applying Global Best Practices to the Privatization of Narita Airport," requestingNaritaInternational Airport Co. (NAA) to make further efforts to reduce landing fees in response to the recent NAA's proposal on possible reduction of landing fees to IATA.

*JAL Group to raise thefuel surcharges on its international flights largely

JAL Group announced on June 3 that it has decided to raise the fuel surcharges on its international flight tickets available from July 1 to September 30 this year and has already applied for it to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. According to the plan, JAL Group will double the fuel surcharges to 5,000 yen on one wayfrom 2,500 yen on one way today on its long-haul international route. It is inevitable that the JAL's action will damage the overseas travel market in this summer as a family with four persons has to pay 40,000 yen additionally when they travel to Hawaii with a JAL flight, for example.
