Haneda will collect PSFC for the first time on domestic flights

Nihon Airport Building, operating passenger facilities of Haneda Airport, has recently applied for collection of passenger service facility charge (PSFC) for Haneda to Tokyo Regional Civil Aviation Bureau. The operator hopes to begin the new action in April 2005. According tothe application, Nihon Airport Building expects to collect 100 yen per passenger through "on-ticket method," by which the charge is included in price of an air ticket.

JAL relies on more code-sharing flights on its Europe routes

JAL Group announced on September 16 that it will reduce its flights forEuropean destinations to cut more costs while expand its flight networks in Asia and Oceania in the 2004-2005 winter schedule. According to the new flight schedule, JAL Group will cancel daily flights on Narita-Zurich route and instead increase code-sharing flights with Swiss International Air Lines to all of five Swiss' flights weekly from three flights weekly today on the route. Swiss will reduceNarita flights to five flights weekly during the winter schedule from six flights weekly today. The JAL's decision resulted from lowerdemand on the route in July and August than it expected.

New 20 Haneda slots will be distributed to the newcomers

The advisory meeting for the redistribution of Haneda slots made a final report on September 7 that a total of new 20 departure slots at HanedaAirport will be distributed to the newcomer airlines of Skymark Airlines (SKY), Hokkaido International Airlines (Air Do) and Skynet Asia Airways (SNA). The new 20 slots will come out of 40 slots collected from major airlines of JAL Group and ANA Group. The new decision will be effective in their business plans after April 2005.The new action is based on further promotion of fair competition among airlines.

FY2005 budgetary request for aircraft developments by METI is up 36%

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has included 12,387 million yen for aircraft developments in the budgetary request for FY2005 starting April 1 2005, largely increasing from 9,119 million yen for FY2004 budget. The Ministry has particularly increased the budgetary request for R&D of environmentally compatible high performance small aircraft, which is defined as one of the Focus 21 Projects, to 5,000 million yen from the FY2004 budget of 2,700 million yen.
